Bryan College Library Rare Collections Damaged

Staff -- Library Journal, 2/14/2000

Materials in Bryan College Library's rare books collections as well as computer laboratories and a natural history museum were damaged in a fire on the eve of Febrary 7. According to Curator Richard Cornelius the library lost "no more than 5 percent" of unique materials pertaining to the Scope's "Monkey Trial," the most important rare book holdings at the Dayton, TN, college. Gone, however, is William Jennings Bryan's personal copy of Charles Darwin's Origin of the Species.
