In Annual Ritual, NYC Mayor Proposes Library Cuts
Staff -- Library Journal, 1/31/2000
Despite testimony from both union and management about the importance of raising salaries for librarians in New York City, Mayor Rudolph Giuliani not only did not address the salary issue in his January 27 budget address, he actually proposed $42.6 million in cuts for the city's three library systems, the New York, Queens Borough, and Brooklyn public libraries. However, such proposals seem more rhetorical than serious, as previous proposed cuts have been restored by the City Council in the budget process.
