Marist College, Poughkeepsie, NY, has voted to name its new library after James Cannavino, the immediate past chair of the Board of Trustees, in honor of his generous pledge of $3 million to the facility, the largest donation by an individual in the college's 70-year history. The $20 million, 85,000 square foot, 800-seat library, which opened for student use on January 3, will be dedicated later in the spring. Cannavino is currently president and CEO of CyberSafe, a network security provider for e-commerce businesses. He formerly served as senior VP for strategy and development at IBM, spearheading development of the IBM ThinkPad laptop. "Naming the library in Jim's honor is a fitting tribute to a man who has been a driving force behind this century's technological revolution," said Marist President Dennis Murray. "During his 15 years as a Marist trustee, Jim Cannavino has constantly challenged us to look to the future so that our students are prepared to meet the challenges of the global marketplace of the 21st century," said Robert Dyson, chair of the Marist trustees.
