Jennifer Crewe has been named Editorial Director of Columbia University Press. Crewe was previously publisher of the Humanities at Columbia University Press.

Renee Davis has been named Science and Technology Reference Librarian at Perry Library, Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA.

David Dodd has been named Branch Manager, Civic Center Library, Marin County Free Library, CA. He was previously Branch Manager at the Aptos Library, Santa Cruz Public Library System, CA.

Roger Downward has been named Chief of Development for the Prince Georges County Memorial Library System, Hyattsville, MD. Downward formerly served as Community Administrator with the Volunteers of America Affordable Housing Division, Henderson, NV.

Todd Elliott, formerly Children's Librarian at the Norfolk Public Library (NPL), VA, has been promoted to Manager, Park Place Branch. Prior to joining NPL, Elliott was Reference Librarian at Tidewater Community College, Portsmouth, VA.

Amy Faubl has been named Library Director at McHenry County College, Crystal Lake, IL. She has worked at McHenry since 1996 in Reference, Bibliographic Instruction, Interlibrary Loan, and Interim Director positions.

Michelle Foyt has been named Business Liaison for the Russell Library, Middletown, CT. She was previously Reference Librarian, Fairfield Public Library, CT.

Arglenda Friday has been appointed Director of the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center, Fort Lauderdale, FL. She was formerly Diversity Coordinator and Reference Librarian, San Jose State University, CA.

John Hebert has been appointed Chief of the Geography and Map Division, Library of Congress (LC). He succeeds Ralph Ehrenberg, who retired in July 1998. Hebert was previously Senior Specialist in Hispanic Bibliography at LC.

Joanie Howland has been named Director of the Cortez Public Library, CO. She had been at the Towaoc Library, Ute Mountain Reservation, Towaoc, CO.

Rene Perez-Lopes is the new Branch Manager of the Jordan-Newby Branch, Norfolk Public Library, VA. He was formerly Library Director and Vice President for Information Systems at Virginia Wesleyan College, Norfolk.

Josephine Schaffer joins the Norfolk Public Library (NPL), VA, as Branch Manager of the Janaf Branch. She was formerly a Children's Department Manager for the Chesapeake Public Library, VA, and a Branch Manager with the Petersburg Public Library, VA.

Darrel Skidmore has been appointed CEO of the London Public Library, Ont. Skidmore was Director of the Board of Education for London from 1992 to 1996 as well as for Toronto from 1996 to 1998.

Carole Svensson, formerly an Information Specialist with Waggener Edstrom, Portland, OR, has been named Reference/Business Librarian at Elon College, NC.

Don Tolliver has been appointed Vice President for Information Services and Chief Information Officer, Kent State University (KSU), OH. He has served as Dean of Libraries and Media Services at KSU for the past 15 years.

Kate Wittenberg has been appointed Director, Electronic Publishing Initiative at Columbia, Columbia University Press (CUP). Wittenberg will continue to serve as Executive Editor and Publisher of the Social Sciences. Prior to joining CUP, Wittenberg was Associate History Editor at Oxford University Press.

OBITUARIES

Mary Ellen Riley Batchelor, retired Reference Librarian at Southern Methodist University Library (SMU), Dallas, died October 17.

Ann Marie Kellner Geise, Director of the Peterborough Town Library, NY, died October 8, 1999. She had worked at the library since 1975.

Elizabeth A. Pierson, Manager of Technical Services, Lexington Public Library (LPL), KY, died on October 4 at the age of 57. She worked at LPL since 1989.
