Sandra Rios Balderrama was appointed Diversity Officer at the American Library Association as of January 8. Balderrama was Supervising Librarian for Recruitment, Staff Training, and Retention at the Oakland Public Library, California, a position she held since September 1995. She is president of REFORMA and is a member of ALA's Spectrum Initiative Steering Committee.

Rodrigo A. Bustos, formerly Public Services Librarian, Mercer University Library, Atlanta, has been appointed Reference Librarian/Computer Specialist, William Russell Pullen Library, Georgia State University, Atlanta.

Ellen Fanjoy has been named Administrative Librarian for Library Planning and Evaluation, Delaware Division of Libraries/State Library of Delaware.

Max Hand is now Assistant County Librarian, Cullman County Public Library System, Alabama, effective February 9. He has been Director of the Cross Trails Regional Library, Opp, Alabama.

Beth Hoke has been named Director of the North Chicago Public Library. She was previously the Audiovisual Services Coordinator at Cook Memorial Library, Libertyville, Illinois. She replaces Mary Robinson, who retired after 24 years.

Jeanette Larson has been named Library Development Director at the Texas State Library and Archives, Austin. She was interim director of the department.

The University of Alabama School of Library and Information Studies has announced the creation of an endowed scholarship, named in honor of the retired George R. Stewart, who served 33 years at Birmingham Public Library, 16 as director. He was awarded the first Librarian of the Year award by the Alabama Chapter of Beta Phi Mu and served as president of the Alabama Library Association and the Southwestern Library Association.

Margaret Tice has been named Coordinator of Community Youth Services, a new position created at the Queens Borough Public Library, Jamaica, New York, in response to the library's growing interaction with schools, parents, and caregivers. She was most recently Manager of the Connecting Libraries and Schools program at Brooklyn Public Library.

Judith Killen Willner has been named Assistant Director, Sachem Public Library, Holbrook, New York. She was formerly Head of Reference at Northport- East Northport Public Library, New York.

The Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE) has announced its new officers. President-elect is Anne Woodsworth, Dean, Palmer School of Library and Information Science, Long Island University. Danny Wallace, Director of the Kent State University School of Library and Information Science, Ohio, will serve on the Board of Directors.
