HarperCollins Launches E-book Imprint

HarperCollins officially entered the burgeoning e-book arena February 20 will the launch of the digital imprint PerfectBound. The line will debut this month with 15 titles and 15 more coming in March with a total of as many as 100 e-titles annually. The publisher is supporting the imprint with several of its strongest pillars, including Joyce Carol Oates, R.L. Stine, and recent Nobel Prize winner Gao Xingjian. HarperCollins President Jane Friedman said that each book will be published "with full editorial design, marketing, and publicity support...we will not just digitize books and release them into cyberspace." Oates's title Faithless will be supplemented with an author interview, while Gao's Soul Mountain will come packaged with his Nobel acceptance speech. The books will be downloadable from the standard sources.
