Senate Ethics Committee OKs Hillary's Big Book Deal
Staff -- Library Journal, 2/19/2001
The Senate Ethics Committee has green-lighted Senator Hillary Clinton's (D-NY) $8 million book deal with Simon & Schuster, which had been challenged by two watchdog groups claiming a possible conflict of interest. In a brief statement to the press, Clinton said: "I am pleased that the Senate Ethics Committee has found that my agreement with Simon & Schuster fully complies with the Senate ethics rules." Although the committee did not release a statement regarding its finding, a strong factor in the former First Lady's favor was that she clinched the deal before being elected senator. The book currently is scheduled for a 2003 release.
