Staff -- Library Journal, 1/22/2001
At the American Library Association Midwinter Meeting in Washington, DC, Sage Publications announced the creation of a new imprint: Sage Reference. The new operation will produce social science reference works, including encyclopedias, dictionaries, and handbooks in print and digital formats for academic and public libraries. In announcing the line, Sage's publisher Rolf Janke, who will lead the new endeavor, said that the content will be written and developed by world-class scholars and tested by a Librarian Advisory Board. "We are no strangers to academic libraries and I am looking forward to expanding our reach into the public library market as well," said Janke. The new imprint is an ambitious undertaking, and some of the forthcoming titles include the Handbook of Interviewing, the Handbook of Disability Studies, and the Handbook of Counseling. The encyclopedias segment of the business will offer such titles as the four-volume Encyclopedia of Crime and Punishment, Encyclopedia of Women in the American West, Encyclopedia of Extremism, Terrorism, and Hate Crimes, Encyclopedia of New Media, the Encyclopedia of Research Methods for the Social Sciences, and an Encyclopedia of Distance Learning.
