National Geographic Launching Literary Travel Series

National Geographic Books is launching a new series of literary travel volumes under the series title "Directions." The publisher has lined up several heavyweight authors to write the volumes including Paul Theroux, Larry McMurtry, Susanna Moore, Joyce Carol Oates, W.S. Merwin, and musician Lou Reed. According to the publisher, the line will release six to ten titles per year. "While the content will be diverse," said company president Nina Hoffman, " the books will have in common a strong personal voice in the tradition of the finest travel literature."
