Salon.com Picks 2000's Best Books

Staff -- Library Journal, 1/8/2001

Internet media operation Salon.com has announced the winners of its fifth annual best books contest. The ten winners are divided equally between fiction and nonfiction as selected by Editorial Director Laura Miller and Salon's book staff. The winners are:

FICTION

  • Zadie Smith, White Teeth (Random)
  • Denis Johnson, The Name of the Word (HarperCollins)
  • Mark Salzman, Lying Awake (Knopf)
  • Richard Slotkin, Abe (Holt)
  • Jim Crace, Being Dead (Farrrar)

NONFICTION

  • Nasdijj, The Blood Runs Like A River Through My Dreams (Houghton)
  • Debra Dickerson, An American Story (Pantheon)Ann Wroe, Pontius Pilate (Random)
  • Diana Preston, The Boxer Rebellion (Walker)
  • Elizabeth Marshall Thomas, The Secret Social Life of Dogs (S&S)
