Parachute publishing will create a line of tie-in books based on the hit 1999 indy film The Blair Witch Project. Aimed at the young adult audience pivotal to the film's staggering box-office success (it cost $25,000 to produce and earned $250 million in returns), the series, which will be called The Blair Witch Files, reportedly will extend the legend of the Blair Witch by following central character Cade Merrill's search to solve the mystery of the disappearances and murders surrounding the town of Burkittesville, Maryland, where the film was set. The first two volumes -- The Witch's Daughter and The Dark Room -- will hit shelves this August to psyche up audiences for the release of Blair Witch 2 on the big screen in the fall.
