Lewinsky Offered Multimillion Book Deal

Staff -- Library Journal, 2/2/1998

Publisher Judith Regan, honcho of HarperCollins imprint ReganBooks, has offered Monica Lewinsky a multimillion dollar deal to write a tell-all title about her alleged affair with President Clinton. Regan told the press she would pay "$1-$3 million" for a book and would raise the ante as high as "$4-$5 million" if the former White House intern could also supply personal photos of herself and the President. Porn peddler Bob Guccione, publisher of Penthouse, has also extended a big bucks offer. Guccione says he would pay Lewinsky several million for her story and a cheesecake spread in his magazine. Although he asserted the photos wouldn't have to be quite as raw as the publication's standard fare, he nonetheless wants the public to be able "to see what Clinton [allegedly] saw."
