Ballantine Takes on The New Yorker
Staff -- Library Journal, 1/19/1998
Beginning in March, Ballantine will publish a monthly series of thin trade paperbacks meant to compete with magazines like Harpers and The New Yorker for readers' limited attention. Though the ponderous title, "The Library of Contemporary Thought," may not trip off the tongue, the publisher hopes readers will want to ruminate on the opinions of lawyer Vincent Bugliosi (on the Paula Jones suit), sportswriter John Feinstein (on Tiger Woods), and novelist Carl Hiaasen (on the Disney empire). At under ten dollars each libraries can afford multiple copies; and unlike so many "instant" books on newsworthy topics, there may be some lasting value between these covers. A great choice for standing order plans.
